How to Write a Thesis Proposal for a Dissertation

Sometimes it seems like there is no end to writing. There is not only a perspective of spending several years on dissertation writing, but the necessity to complete thesis writing and to provide a good thesis proposal.
There are several reasons to writing a thesis proposal. First of all, by doing so you indicate that a topic you’ve chosen for your research is really significant, and offers a lot of opportunities to work on. Secondly, your thesis proposal writing will become a sort of a scheme, a detailed plan you can lean on when conducting your researches and looking for proper helpful materials. Thesis proposal writing also demonstrates that you were able to come up with methods of analysis that are appropriate and correspond to the information you possess. Together all these reasons show to a committee that you have absolute control over your research topic, and that your findings will be significant.

Among general requirements there is a certain must: you must answer the question of your research. By answering this question, you show how you can use and interpret the researched materials, and whether you are able to make appropriate judgments. You also need to construct your approach and methods and give a good, strongly supported by evidence argument that makes a final judgment for your analysis.
When all these factors are taken care of, you should start writing a thesis proposal. As any formal document, a thesis proposal has its structure. You will need to contact your university for specific requirements. But the basic requisites stay the same. First of all, any thesis proposal begins from a title page. Note that the title has to be brief and catchy. Be sure to give information on the author of the thesis proposal, his institution, department, research mentor, mentor's institution, and date of delivery.
A title page is followed by the abstract – a brief summary of your thesis proposal that is usually 200 – 300 words long. Its purpose is simple. A reader has to have an opportunity to get a fast acquaintance with your writing. This is why be sure to include the key statements of your dissertation into it. Also, give a table of contents.
Well, after all the small parts of the thesis proposal are now completed, it’s time for long writing. We’ll start with the Introduction. It gives your readers the problem, and makes them respond to it. In other words, your introduction writing has to be good enough to capture the audience. On the other had, it has to be more informative, than amusing. Just don’t overdo on it – too much terminology will get anyone easily confused. State your thesis – the reason for writing the paper, and move on to the Approach/Method section.
The Approach/Method section will give an overall review of the methods and approaches that you applied to your problem. Include calculations, equipment and graphs. Don’t give any results, for first of all before the dissertation writing is finished, it is too early to talk about them, and also the purpose of the next section – Preliminary Results Page – is to give these suggested outcomes.
Provide a work plan by stating how you are going to schedule your researches. Detailed information is more than welcomed her. You can explain the steps you are going to take in investigating your topic, indicate deadlines you have set for completing each stage of the project, including any work you have already completed, and discuss any particular challenges that need to be overcome.
Finally, write an Implications of Research page that will tell about new knowledge that your research is going to come up with. Stress once more the importance of the conducted research.
Provide the List of References. Cite all ideas, concepts, text, data that are not your own.
This is just the basic outline. Its purpose is to make you feel more certain about writing a thesis proposal. The rest is up to you.
